Leicester’s Rising Star With a Voice That Speaks Volumes

On the surface, Jake Thompson may seem like a typical 20-year-old guy. Mild-mannered and dressed in everyday casual wear, he might blend easily into a crowd.

But when Jake steps onto the stage, it’s a completely different story. He has a secret weapon — his voice, and more and more people are beginning to take notice of his raw and remarkable talent.

He doesn’t rely on frills or flashy gimmicks. The power of Jake’s voice speaks for itself — rich with emotion and soul, reminiscent of modern artists like Ed Sheeran and Teddy Swims.

His covers regularly rack up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok, and he was recently discovered at an open mic night in Leicester, where he caused a stir with his powerful and unexpected performance.

“People are often surprised because I don’t look like someone who can do what I do,” shares the Thurnby resident.

“I show up to gigs looking pretty unassuming, and then I sing. It takes people by surprise and really grabs their attention.”

“I like to keep it casual,” he continues. “I don’t wear anything too fashionable. I want the focus to be on the music. Some artists rely on gimmicks, and it works for them, but that’s just not me.”

I’ve found my voice, and now I want the music to speak for itself.

Jake is quickly making a name for himself on the Leicester music scene and has already played some significant gigs.

Last November, he performed in front of thousands at Abbey Park’s bonfire night celebration, and in December, his talent shone at Loughborough’s Christmas light switch-on.

Several of his original tracks — ‘Holding On’, ‘Lifeline’, and ‘3am’ — have been featured as ‘Track of the Week’ on BBC East Midlands Introducing. He’s also recently signed a management contract with Yasin El Ashrafi, a local music mogul who believes Jake is Leicester’s “next big thing.”

Fresh from studying music at Leicester College, Jake is now fully committed to making that vision a reality — building a career in music and sharing his extraordinary voice with the world.

While his covers earn him plenty of praise online, it’s the appreciation of his original songs that truly fuels his passion.

“Lately, I’ve been performing more of my own songs at gigs, and the crowd has been responding really well,” Jake says. “That’s the best feeling — getting a great reaction to your own work. That’s what keeps me motivated.”

“I’d love to have a career like Ed Sheeran or James Bay,” he adds.

“I admire artists like them, but I’m also open to experimenting with new styles to see what clicks.”

“I’m excited about the future — working with HQ Studios and releasing new music in 2025,” he adds. “As long as people keep enjoying it, I know I’m on the right track.”
