Valentine’s Day originated from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia. The origin of this lovers day goes back as early as 270 A.D, when the Roman emperor created a new law; which banned marriage for all couples. In spite of this, St. Valentine believed there shouldn’t be a ban and married lovers in secret. And so the day became known as St Valentine’s Day. The meaning behind the day is often disregarded, yet it is now known as the day which celebrates love.

All over the world, Valentine’s Day is celebrated with a loved one. The popularity of the day has led to shops overflowing with gifts for the occasion.

Every year, on the 14th of February, millions across the world present their other half with flowers and chocolates to celebrate the day. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many of you may be planning something special for your Valentine.

There’s no better way to spend Valentine’s Day, than an evening in the city with your loved one. With so many bars and restaurants to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. But if you want to do something a little different, why not enjoy the great outdoors? Wrap up warm and explore Leicestershire’s countryside, where you can enjoy picturesque rivers, cycle paths and even horse riding! This is not only a great way to spend Valentine’s Day, but a great opportunity to relax and spend time together.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to have some fun and do something spontaneous. But if you’re bored of the typical Valentine’s Day plans, be a little more creative, as you don’t have to spend a small fortune to show how much you love someone.
