Rob Nixon, Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police talks about the importance of good leadership, citing the work of two exemplary members of the force.
We could not do what we do without consulting our communities and we do this through our Strategic Independent Advisory Group and Local Advisory Groups. These meetings and conversations help our leaders make good and informed decisions to improve service and standards.
Good Leadership is vital to the success of our force. With that in mind we are delighted that the College of Policing has officially endorsed our new training programmes for Leaders in the police. We are the first force in the country to have our Leadership Programmes endorsed in this way and it is credit to a great deal of work by our Training Leadership Academy.
A great example of the excellence of our leaders brings me to share with you that Chief Superintendent Manjit Atwal is retiring.
She is leaving after 28 years in policing and is one of the highest ranking Sikh police officers in the country. Manjit is currently on secondment to the College of Policing where she is the Strategic Lead for Violence Against Women
and Girls and Op Soteria – the national programme to improve the police service’s response to rape and serious sexual offences. She has spent most of her career servicing the communities of Leicestershire. I am sure you will all join me in thanking her for her service and wishing her well in her retirement.
Another example of excellence is the recent recognition of PC Dipti Manani for ‘bringing hope and support to countless women and girls,’ at the national Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) awards by the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC).
Both of these women have achieved incredible things and are a great example of officers who excel in our force.
As the darker nights move in we always remind our communities to celebrate safely no matter what you are doing
be it Halloween or Diwali. The Force has plenty to celebrate over the last few months and I continue to be very proud of Team Leicestershire and all our efforts to keep the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland safe.
