Look forward to some summertime fun over the Bank Holiday weekend
Leicester will be buzzing over the next few months as a number of events return to the annual events calendar, along with a few new ones. With a mix of sport, culture, music, art and heritage, there really is something for everyone.
The City Festival is a brand new initiative, incorporating both old and new activities for people to enjoy over August Bank Holiday weekend. Take part in the 8th annual Sports Fest on August 25at Humberstone Gate West between 11am and 4pm, which will include a wide range of family-themed activities, or if you’re up for a bigger sporting challenge, the Sky Ride is probably more your thing. Held around the city on the same date it’s a great way to zoom across the city on your bike.
The Leicester Market will host a diverse mix of activities and entertainment including street performers and musicians for Our Leicester Day. Again held on August 25 from 11am onwards the area will be taken over by local community groups who are looking to promote their organisations to the people of the city.
Enjoy a two-day family event in Orton Square on August 25 and 26 called The End of The Pier Delights. Bringing the seaside to the city centre it will be lots of fun for children under 12 and their families. Don’t forget to take along your bucket and spade for the sandcastle competition.
If history is more your thing then you will enjoy the Leicester Old Town Festival on August 26. Held across Magazine Square, Newarke Houses Museum, Leicester Castle and Motte it will take place between 11am and 5pm. Join knights, soldiers and maidens and try your hand at some medieval combat and archery.
Finish off the weekend with lots of colour, spice and music courtesy of the Leicester Belgrave Mela. Enjoy a glittering mix of dance, fashion, art and culture, as well as a whole host of free South Asian activities between 1am and 6pm at Humberstone Gate, Gallowtree Gate, East Gates, Clock Tower and Leicester Market.
